Since the beginning of my nursing career I have found the most satisfying part of my job has been to help patients feel comfortable and cared for while putting them at ease in what can be a very anxiety provoking setting. Managers and Administrators are overwhelmed with the task of training staff in not only the clinical area, but in regulatory compliance, safety, and skills in patient (customer) service. I have often found that for nursing staff, the area of customer service can be overshadowed by the immediate need to provide high quality clinical care. Much like the highly specialized and skilled surgeon who may lack a perfectly polished bedside manner, clinical staff may lack the training and background required to represent a truly World Class Healthcare Organization. I believe leadership should lead in a way that motivates frontline staff to effectively represent the organization. I believe one or two highly effective employees in a group of many can have a powerful effect on the group as a whole. In my current role as a travel RN, I aim to be part of the positive change in any organization.
